A detailed marine illustration of a Blue Octopus by Ernst Haeckel circa late 1800s.
Haeckel (1834 - 1919) was a German zoologist, naturalist, eugenicist, philosopher, physician, professor, marine biologist and artist who discovered, described and named thousands of new species, mapped a genealogical tree relating all life forms, and coined many terms now common in biology.
His published artwork includes over 100 detailed, multi-colour illustrations of animals and sea creatures, collected in his book Kunstformen der Natur (Art Forms of Nature).
This image is wonderfully quirky and would be perfect as a fabulous focal point on a large wall in a holiday or coastal home. You could pair it with Lobster or if you're after a trio then Octopus Gamochonia would sit very happily in the middle.
Available as an archival quality reproduction in 9 standard metric sizes in the following formats: an unframed print; a framed print; a stretched canvas; a canvas floating frame. Frames are available in white, natural oak, chocolate oak and black sustainable timber.
