A vintage promotional poster for the French Open tennis tournament held over two weeks in late May every year at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris. This 1984 artwork for the Grand Slam event was designed by French painter Gilles Aillaud, the first artist to depict crowds at Roland Garros on the annual poster.
The crowds that year were treated to a thrilling men's final that saw Ivan Lendl win his first Grand Slam title, defeating John McEnroe 3-6, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5, 7-5.
The women's final saw Martina Navratilova defeating Chris Evert 6-3, 6-1. It was Navratilova's 9th career Grand Slam title.
