ABOUT THE ART
Originally produced in the 1930s as a stone lithographic poster, this vintage print is thought to feature Gabrielle Delys, a renowned French actress and singer who died in 1920. Gaby was a flapper who was friends with the rich and famous. Flappers are icons of the Roaring Twenties (and Thirties) who wore short skirts (knee height was considered short during that period), bobbed their hair, listened to jazz and flaunted their disdain for prevailing codes of decent behaviour.
The story of Fap'Anis is steeped in history and intrigue. Credited as the first alcohol beverage in the history of alcoholic beverages to be a triumph based solely on its marketing material, Fap'Anis was conceived by Delval, a collective of intellectuals inspired by Proust's early 20th century parodies.
Delval had no intention of creating the drink and proceeded to produce a distinctive poster as well as a series of advertisements for Parisian film theatres voiced by actors with bourgeoisie accents. The parody of class structure inherent in the advertisements were lost on the bourgeoisie and by 1932 the clamour for the drink drove Delval to commission a fortified liqueur infused with secret herbs and a hint of anise.
Upon its release in 1933, Fap'Anis was an instant success with the bourgeoisie and the fortified liqueur became one of the most sought after drinks despite a hefty price of around 4.5 months average salary for a bottle.

All prints are made to order.
Unframed prints: please allow 3-5 business days plus delivery.
Framed prints and canvas: please allow 10 business days plus delivery.
Production times may be longer during sales and the pre-Christmas period. If you need your order by a specific date, add a note in the Notes field at checkout and we will do everything we can to help.

Your order will be sent via Australia Post or courier and may be dispatched direct from our Australian printers. You will receive a tracking link when your order is dispatched - we ask that you keep an eye on delivery progress via your tracking link.

This policy does not apply to: sale items, promotional offers, discounted products, trade or wholesale priced items, bundle offers, greeting cards, personalised items (including personalised beach, market or cycling prints, and personalised tea towels), RPM gift cards, or items purchased with a gift card.
How to Return an Item
1. Email enquire@retroprintmerchants.com.au within 30 days of receiving your order with the name the order was placed under, your 5-digit RPM order number, and your reason for returning.
2. We'll reply with return instructions and the correct address - please don't ship anything back before hearing from us.
3. Return shipping is at your cost and should include tracking. Items must be returned in their original condition and packaging, with a copy of your order confirmation.
4. Ship only to the address we provide (it may vary), as we can't be responsible for items lost or damaged in return transit.
5. Once shipped, email us your tracking number.
What Happens Next
Once we receive your return, our production team will assess it and let you know the outcome. For change-of-mind returns, we offer store credit or an exchange - if the exchange item is lower in value, we'll issue the balance as store credit.
