ABOUT THE ART
Bauhaus retro poster celebrating the Staatliches Bauhaus commonly called the Bauhaus (German for 'building house'), a German art school which operated from 1919 to 1933 during the period in Germany’s history known as the “Weimar Republic”. The school became famous for its approach to design which attempted to unify individual artistic vision with the principles of mass production and emphasis on function.
The Bauhaus movement later had a profound influence upon subsequent developments in art, architecture, graphic design, interior design, industrial design and typography. Staff at the Bauhaus included prominent artists such as Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky and László Moholy-Nagy at various points.
The school existed in three German cities: Weimar from 1919 to 1925; Dessau from 1925 to 1932; and Berlin from 1932 to 1933. The first Bauhaus exhibition opened in Weimar in 1923 with the credo Art and Technology — A New Unity. In 1933 the school was closed by its own leadership under pressure from the Nazi regime, having been painted as a centre of communist intellectualism. Although the school was closed, the staff continued to spread the Bauhaus ideals as they left Germany and emigrated all over the world.
The Bauhaus style tends to feature simple geometric shapes like rectangles and spheres, without elaborate decorations. Buildings, furniture and fonts often feature rounded corners and sometimes rounded walls. Other buildings are characterised by rectangular features, for example protruding balconies with flat, chunky railings facing the street and long banks of windows. Furniture often uses chrome metal pipes that curve at corners.

- Our professional framers prefer cast acrylic rather than glass: it is lightweight, virtually unbreakable, has greater optical clarity than glass and provides your print with long term protection from harmful UV rays.
- Our framers will dispatch direct to you in professional packaging.
- We do not ship framed prints outside Australia.
- Note: Framed prints should not be hung in strong direct sun due to moisture in the archival pigment inks. If you have a sunny spot we suggest you opt for a stretched canvas or a canvas floating frame instead.
- We print on Bauhaus bright white canvas 380gsm which has a superior bright white matte surface with perfect colour control and clear texture.
- The canvas is a cotton/polyester blend. Polyester is added to give greater tension across the image so it doesn’t sag over time.
- The printed canvas is then stretched onto a pine stretcher bar which is strong, durable and from planted forests so environmentally friendly.
- All finishing materials used are museum grade and acid free.
- Our framer will dispatch direct to you in professional packaging.
- We do not ship stretched canvas prints outside Australia.
- The top end of our range - la crème de la crème!
- We print as per Stretched Canvas above and our professional framer then frames in your choice of timber placing a 5mm gap between the canvas and frame.
- This contemporary, popular style gives the illusion that your canvas picture is “floating” within the frame.
