A vintage promotional poster for the French Open tennis tournament held over two weeks in late May every year at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris. This 1981 poster for the Grand Slam event was designed by Spanish painter Eduardo Arroyo and depicts the back of a tennis player’s head, clearly inspired by Bjorn Borg, whose famous headband and blonde hair are easily recognisable by all fans.
Apparently motivated by being the subject of that year's poster, first-seeded and three-time defending men's champion Borg successfully defended his title, defeating Ivan Lendl 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in the five-set final.
In the women's final Hana Mandlikova defeated Sylvia Hanika 6-2, 6-4. It was Mandlikova's second career Grand Slam title and her first French Open title.
