A beautifully restored and striking vintage poster by Swiss artist Augusto Giacometti (1877-1947) for the XVIth National Exhibition of Fine Arts Zurich in 1928.
Giacometti was one of the Swiss painters to emerge from Art Nouveau and Symbolism towards abstraction. He is considered one of the precursors of abstract art, evident through his simplification of forms and the use of large areas of primary and secondary colours. In this commissioned poster he uses a reduced colour palette - the image is reduced to the essential, the butterfly to its essence.
Augusto was part of the successful Giacometti dynasty of painters, cousin of Giovanni Giacometti who was the father of Alberto, Diego and Bruno Giacometti. He was prolific as a painter, poster artist and mural and stained glass designer, including the design of several windows in prominent Zurich churches.
Available as an archival quality reproduction in 7 standard metric sizes in the following formats: an unframed print; a framed print; a stretched canvas; a canvas floating frame. Frames are available in white, natural oak, dark oak and black sustainable timber.
