A vibrant vintage poster for Spa Monopole sparkling water originally printed in 1928 and designed by Frenchman Jean D'Ylen (1886-1938).
After starting out as a jewellery designer, D'Ylen became a full-time poster artist in 1919. A sincere admirer and disciple of Leonetto Cappiello, D'Ylen's work showed traits of the "father of modern advertising" and was himself sometimes called the "master of the modern poster". He died prematurely in 1938, at the height of his career. His defining comment was in 1921 when he said, “A poster must be expressive, colourful and have an attraction which captures the attention of a passer-by”.
Available as an archival quality reproduction in 7 standard metric sizes in the following formats: an unframed print; a framed print; a stretched canvas; a canvas floating frame. Frames are available in white, natural oak, dark oak and black sustainable timber.

- This option is for you if you've fallen in love with one of our restored images and you've got the perfect frame or you know where to source one.
- We print soon after we receive an order and we don't muck around with quality. We print on 230gsm acid-free, wood-free, pH-neutral, archival matte paper using premium archival pigment inks. In a nutshell, the paper is top notch and the high-level digital printing results in superior colour saturation.
- The dimensions we quote is the actual paper size and so our 7 sizes fit standard metric frames, eg. an A3 print will fit a standard A3 frame.
- All prints include an off-white printed border that sits between the image and the edge of the paper. We think it looks fabulous and mimics a mat board but without the expense. If you really don't want a border let us know in the Notes section at checkout.
Off-white printed border widths:
A3 - 13mm; A2 - 19mm; A1 - 27mm; A0 - 38mm;
B2 - 23mm; B1 - 32mm; B0 - 50mm. - When it comes time to ship we take great care with packaging because we've learned over the years that the freight process can be a little rough! Unframed prints are gently rolled and shipped in sturdy tubes and we haven't had a complaint yet.
- This option is for you if you've fallen in love with one of our restored images and you want it professionally framed.
- We print as per Unframed Prints above and then ask our framer to frame in your choice of white, natural oak, dark oak or black sustainable timber.
- Frames measure 20mm on the face and 30mm on the side for our A3, A2, A1, B2 and B1 sizes. Frames measure 30mm on the face and 30mm on the side for our A0 size. Frames overlap the outer 5mm of the paper.
So, in a nutshell, the final framed dimensions for our prints are:
A3: 325 x 450mm (add 40mm to height & width minus a 10mm overlap); A2: 450 x 625mm; A1: 625 x 870mm; B2: 530 x 735mm: B1: 735 x 1030mm; A0: 890 x 1240mm - Our framer uses Shinkolite 3mm cast acrylic rather than glass: it is lightweight, virtually unbreakable, has greater optical clarity than glass and provides your print with long term protection from harmful UV rays.
- Frames are finished on the back with d-rings, wire and bump-ons and ready to hang.
- Our framer will despatch direct to you in professional packaging.
- PLEASE NOTE: We offer our largest size - the B0 1000mm x 1414mm - as a framed print only to people who are able to collect from our framer in Carrum Downs VIC (due to shipping difficulties with couriers). To order please select the B0 canvas floating frame option with your preferred frame colour and enter the following copy in the Notes section: "This is a FRAMED PRINT order not canvas and I will collect when ready".
- This option is for you if you prefer a textured image without a frame.
- We print on Bauhaus bright white canvas 380gsm which has a superior bright white matte surface with perfect colour control and clear texture.
- The canvas is a cotton/polyester blend. Polyester is added to give greater tension across the image so it doesn’t sag over time.
- The printed canvas is then stretched onto a pine stretcher bar which is strong, durable and from planted forests so environmentally friendly.
- All finishing materials used are museum grade and acid free.
- Our framer will despatch direct to you in professional packaging.
- This option is for you if you prefer a textured image with a frame.
- We print as per Stretched Canvas above and our professional framer then frames with a 5mm gap between the canvas and frame.
- This contemporary, popular style gives the illusion that your canvas picture is actually “floating” within the frame as the picture sits away from the frame instead of the edge of the picture disappearing behind the frame itself (as it does with standard print framing).
- Frames measure 10mm on the face and 40mm on the side and colours available include white, natural oak, dark oak and black sustainable timber.

You won't be charged shipping within Australia unless you need an unframed print in a hurry and opt for Express Post which is $10 (not available for framed prints, stretched canvas or canvas floating frames).

- We print and frame to order which means every single print that leaves our hands is new and fresh and has been produced just for you.
- It also means it may take 5 production days for unframed prints plus delivery.
- For framed prints, stretched canvas and canvas floating frames we ask for 3-4 weeks production plus delivery. We will do our very best to get it to you earlier if we can.
- Standard delivery with tracking is usually under 7 days across Australia (excluding print production time).
- Express Post (unframed prints only) is usually under 3 days across Australia (excluding print production time).
- If you need your order by a certain date then please add a note at checkout and we will do everything we can to get it to you in time.
- The protective watermark in the centre of our online images will not appear on your print, we promise. It's only there to stop schmucks downloading and reproducing our restored files and original creations.
- We manufacture to order and therefore we do not provide cancellations, refunds, returns or exchanges if you have a change of mind or if you ordered the incorrect size, format or design across our range.
- We take great precautions with our packaging in preparation for shipping but if your order arrives damaged or if it is not what you ordered please call me (Penny) on 0407 819 574 within 7 days of receiving your order so we can have a quick chat about what went wrong.
Please take photos of the damage that occurred during transit and email to pen@retroprintmerchants.com.au and we will rectify it pronto and send a replacement. - We ask that you handle your items with care (common sense must prevail) and if you have ordered a framed print or canvas then please follow the 'How to Hang' instructions included by our framer. We will not take responsibility for any damage that occurs after delivery.
